Welcome to the Dark Ages

Oh my God! I am totally pissed off! I was in the middle of replying to people’s messages to me when all of the sudden *poof*! A black-out… Aah!!! Today is supposed to be a Holy Thursday! People are in their house relaxing because it’s a holiday and then the freaking electricity goes out? This is the province in the Philippines for you, darn it.

I am really so frustrated and furious! We have so many black-outs here that our computers and appliances gets busted easily because the electricity goes on and off like crazy. I really hate this! Good thing my laptop’s battery is fully charged. At least I can still write about my thoughts… geez… talk about an addicted blogger…

But then my laptop's battery will only last for 1 and a half hours so what will I do then? No! What a boring day today will be. I'll just help my parents pack then. Beats doing nothing but stare at the ceiling hoping the electricity will come back.

The Newest Hip Hop/Rap Site

Yo peeps! How are you all doing? Doing fine I hope. Anyway I was searching the net with nothing to do and I encountered this new rap forum. You might be asking what this rap forum is all about. Well as the name implies it's the latest hip hop/rap forum were you can join for free and talk about hip hop or rap. For newbie hip hop/rap artists out there, this site is a good way for promoting yourself and to get a chance in the big time lime light and be a celebrity yourself.

The rap forum also features artist listing, new releases, the rap artist top 10, and the online hip hop online free style battling (that's where you compete to see who's a better rapper or hip hop singer; not actually physically fighting or bashing your face mind you).

Just check out the rap forum yourself if you want to know what I'm talking about. The site has a very nice design and vibe to it. It really is worth the try and joining.

XU @ 75!

Xavier University Jubilee Music Video in celebration of its 75th founding anniversary.

GO ATENEO!!!

Words can't tell how proud I am to be an Atenean! For 75 years, XAVIER UNIVERSITY - ATENEO DE CAGAYAN have been forming men and women for others who are competent, committed, and compassionate.

XAVIER UNIVERSITY, the first Jesuit University in the Philippines and the first university in Mindanao. Celebrating its 75th year of truth and excellence! From being literally demolished during World War II it now rises in it's shining glory as it is now. Rooted in history and I know will continue to go on strong and build better leaders for our country, the Philippines.

I have been a proud Atenean ever since high school. Once I was enrolled and started to go to school at Xavier University High School - Ateneo de Cagayan (XUHS), I could really feel that there is something very different in the atmosphere. It was a feeling of great achievement and of great passion. It is at XUHS that I could safely say that I was molded into a true blue Atenean who does more than what being asked (who never settles for mediocrity (magis). It was at XUHS where I found myself and I really felt at home. I was also glad that I went to XU for my College Education. It is here that I had found my future and who I envision my self to be, a Registered Nurse who places the sake of his patients first and who plays a role as a patient advocate. It's sad that I have to leave this wonderful community as I am about to leave for Canada. But my heart and passion will always be a true blue Atenean.

Again, I am PROUD to be an ATENEAN!!!

Receiving the Spreaded Love

I am so honored to have received these awards that were very generously shared by rnfreebies! I am really at lost for words. Never have I in my wildest thoughts did I imagine that someone could really appreciate my blog and the things I write in here. Thank you very much! But this award is not only for me but for my readers and the other nursing blogs out there who want to spread TLC (that's Tender Loving Care) through Nursing.

The Beautiful People

I was browsing deviantART and I was looking at artistic nude photographs (it's not pornography people it's art!) and a thought suddenly came to me...

What if all the beautiful people (I mean the physical appearance not the personality thing) were sorted or moved to their own island. That wouldn't be hard because there are only a few beautiful people by today's standard (the thin girls and muscular guys).

So we have an island of the average looking people and the island of gorgeous people... what do you think will happen? I know, the island of the average looking people and the island of gorgeous people will then set a new set of standards for beauty and then each island will have again a division of the beautiful and not.

Geez, people are so hard to please...

How to Stay Healthy on a Plane

I got this e-mail from my mom and I thought that I'd share it with everyone. Uhm, this information I think came from MSN pages.

.:The Problem: Dry Cabin Air:.

The low humidity in airplane cabins tends to dry out the sensitive mucus membranes in the upper airways where viruses and bacteria can take hold.

What To Do:
* Keep drinking. Ideally, have 8 ounces of water or fruit juice for each hour of your trip.
* Stick to bottled or canned water and juices, and limit alcohol or caffeinated drinks, which can be dehydrating.
* Consider skipping drinks that may be made from airline tap water, such as coffee or tea. Also, ask for your drinks without ice when traveling from countries where water safety is questionable.

.:The Problem: Blood Clots:.

Blood clots (deep venous thrombosis, or DVT) can develop in the deep veins of the legs, especially on long flights. They can lead to a potentially deadly embolism, sometimes days after the trip. At particular risk: individuals who have had recent orthopedic surgery in their lower limbs, those with vascular or circulatory problems, some cancer patients, the severely obese, smokers, pregnant women and those on hormone replacement medication or contraception pills, and those with a family history of blood clots, says Dr. Phyllis Kozarsky, a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

What To Do:
* Stretch and walk around, if you can, every hour or so.
* Do in-seat ankle extensions and flexes, wiggle your toes, move your arms and legs around.
* If possible, get your legs above your heart—easiest if you are in a first-class sleeper, but also possible in a bulkhead economy-class seat, where you can put your feet up on the wall in front of you.
* Avoid sitting with your legs crossed or sleeping for long periods of time.
* Ask your doctor about prescribing medical graduated compression socks if you are at risk for blood clots.

Those who experience the symptoms of DVT—swelling, warmth, redness in the leg, or pain that is noticeable or worse when standing or walking— should notify a flight attendant. (And do not massage the leg, which could be dangerous.)

.:The Problem: Germs in Close Quarters:.

The Federal Aviation Administration reports that 75% of commercial airliners now use air filters that can intercept almost all of the harmful bacteria, viruses and other contaminants in the cabin. Still, that may not be enough to protect you from the germs of the sneezer sitting next to you.

What To Do:

* Bring your own lightweight microfiber travel blanket and pillow cover for long flights, because you can never be sure that supplies onboard are clean. (Airline cleaning schedules vary.)
* Wash, wash, wash your hands after touching potentially germy surfaces—door handles, toilet seats and handles, lavatory sink spigots, magazines or other people’s hands. Also, use clean hands when touching your mouth, eyes, nose or any food. “The most common way of contracting an infection onboard is by contact with an infected surface—not by breathing infected air,” says Jolanda Janczewski, an occupational health and safety consultant.
* If you can’t get to soap and water, use an antibacterial gel cleaner. Choose one that is at least 60% alcohol, recommends Dr. Christie Reed, a travel-health official at the CDC. Small, 2- to 3-ounce samplers that comply with stricter airport carry-on rules for liquids and gels are available at most convenience stores and drugstores.
* Use bottled water—not tap—for brushing your teeth.

.:The Problem: Blocked Ears:.

Traveling at 35,000 feet can cause painful and potentially dangerous changes in ear pressure when the plane is ascending or descending. Passengers traveling with head congestion are particularly susceptible.

What To Do:

* Chew gum, suck on candy and keep swallowing. Says Dr. Reed, “Swallowing helps to equalize pressure. Sips of bottled water also help.”
* Consider depressurizing ear inserts (available in adult and children’s sizes at most drugstores), which also can help to equalize air pressure.
* Have a cold? Ask your doctor if decongestant medication would help. (Check security rules for packing nasal spray.) And don’t hold your nose and blow hard, which can do more harm than good by potentially damaging your eardrum.

Missy the Dogie

You just have to love my dogie! Her name is Missy and she's kind of weird in a funny sort of way. I went out of the house to check up on her and there she comes waking from her sleep wagging her tail in a cute way. I was about to pet her when she started running back and forth our yard like crazy so I thought she must need some "out-of-the-house" time. Well, we all do need to get out of the house and make have a walk somewhere. So I took her with me for a walk and then all of the sudden her collar broke and she ran like crazy! Kind of like an escaped convict if you ask me.

I was frantic and ran after her and boy, how can you catch a dog that runs that fast? Grr! I was getting frustrated and decided to come home. I thought that Missy would rather run away somewhere and be a wild dog or something. But to my surprise she ran back to me as I turned my back and followed me home.

Guess she just needed to break free for a while and chase the other dogs and birds and spend her stored energy. She's very hyperactive people! It's like she's on a high sugar diet or something.

Well, I will sure miss her when we leave for Canada. But I know she'll be happy with her mom and bro when we return her to her original owner.

There's More to an Oyster Than You Think

What if gulf oysters produce not only pearls? What if they produce other kinds of precious jewels like diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and etc! What if oysters are the solution to our current problems like pollution, fast depleting energy resources, and a cure for HIV/AIDS?!

What if oysters provide new life for all living creatures? Well, I might be exaggerating a bit already but it is true that gulf oysters can sustain life, especially our lives, by giving us nourishment that is!

You just have to love oysters! There are several ways to cook oysters and so many ways to enjoy them! But did you know that eating oysters can also be risky? Eating raw or under-cooked oysters can cause serious illness or even death from Vibrio vulnificus bacteria. Scary huh? But does this mean that we have to stop eating freshgulf oysters? You've got to be kidding right? That is definitely not an option!

So if you love eating oysters and can't get enough, please visit the Be Oyster Aware website so that you can learn more about your beloved oysters and how to eat oysters safely! Happy eating guys!

Topsy-Turvy House

Aah! My house is such a mess! We have boxes here, garbage there, and you get the point. I never new that our house had so much junk in it! Yeah I'm going to burn all of them later! I just love burning things, I might be a pyromaniac! Hahaha! But I won't burn my house down hehehe!

But within these junk are some hidden treasures... seriously! I get to remember precious memories and it's quite heart-warming. Just proves that not all junk is trash... for that junk may be someones precious item.

Homeowners May Be Being Treated Unfairly

I have read an interesting article about commercial mortgages and I have to say that I was totally blown away! I am saddened by the fact that there are some money lending firms that treat homeowners unfairly according to the Financial Ombudsman.

Many people are struggling just to live a decent living and at the same time be able to pay their commercial mortgages and then we have money lending firms imposing several fees that are not any more reasonable.

For me, the homeowners should really complain about these excessive fees and that the Financial Ombudsman should protect these rights. Homeowners should protect their rights from money lenders that takes advantage of their situation.

Good thing that there still are great lending firms that offers commercial mortgages at very reasonable prices. We're going to move to another place this coming May and this thought is very reassuring.

Discovering New Songs That You'll Like

So a friend of mine send me a message on Friendster (yup I have an account http://www.friendster.com/grimangel) asking me for song recommendations. I have done this too for a time now but I've realized that I have my own unique taste in music and my preferences are not the same with my friends. So I gave my friend this advice that I think would be helpful to other song lovers out there trying so hard to find for new musical inspiration:

1. You can try searching http://www.imeem.com for songs and listen to them online. You have to register first if you're not a member but trust me this site is good and that you won't regret signing up. Listening to other people's playlist can be nice as you are introduced to new songs, artists, and new styles.
2. You could also try www.pandora.com. No, it's not the stupid girl who opened the box that contains all evil and hellish. It's an internet radio service that helps you discover new artists and songs that matches your preference by analyzing and matching songs from the ones you currently like. It's sort of an online dating service that makes sure that songs that you like are matched to you.
3. Or, if you have watched any good movies lately and you liked the official sound track (OST) why not research about the song and the artist of the song. Chances are you'll discover an artist you have never heard of before and that you'll like their songs and style.
4. Watch MTV or listen to the radio! Doing so would make you updated to new songs and trends.
5. Lastly, Download/buy the songs that you like and enjoy!

But it does help if you ask your friends for endorsements... because as the old cliche goes, birds of the same feather stick together. Your friends might have the same weird taste in music like you hahaha... joke.

Exercise Attempt Foiled

After planning to jog or cycle early in the morning these past few days, it was quite amazing that I really woke up and was so determined to exercise (I need to lose some weight, Lol!). I was already preparing myself, I've already changed and all. And as I was putting on my shoes my mom asked me what I was doing.

At first I was a bit defensive because I didn't want her to know that I wanted to lose weight and told her that I just want to take a walk (a walk? 5 am in the morning? What was I thinking?! I could have lied better hehehe). But my mom was not to be fooled and she told me that it would be best if I stayed at home since there are a lot of stray dogs in the neighborhood and that I'd only catch a cold.

Even if I planned this exercise routine for so long now, I decided to take my mom's advice because I'm an obedient loving son (hahaha). Actually I realized that my mom was right. Our neighborhood is not that decent and I'm even afraid to walk around thinking that some stupid delinquents would play a trick on me or something.

So I delay my exercise plans until we move to our new condo unit in Canada. My mom tells me that it has great exercise facilities plus an indoor heated swimming pool. But should I really wait two months to lose some weight? Well, I could always just take minimal servings. Maybe that would do. But I don't plan to starve my self to death because that would be uhm, fatal?

Besides I'm not that overweight.

11 Commandments in Using the Toilet

I found this hilarious 11 Commandments in Using the Toilet (actually 12 but one rule is illegible) while browsing through our old class blogspot, Tataknerd. And I have to say, who ever made these rules sure does have a great sense of humor:

11 Commandments in Using the Toilet
  1. Lift the seat before starting.
  2. Caution! All women place seat in proper position before sitting.
  3. Do not waste paper - use both sides. If paper is scarce use your ingenuity but be careful for hygiene reasons.
  4. Do not confuse toilet brush with toothbrush.
  5. Save electricity - learn to aim in the dark.
  6. Long timers be warned! After two hours ejectochair will start working.
  7. When writing graffiti on the wall - use only waterproof colors and brushes of good quality. Please write legibly.
  8. Flush only when a risk of suffocation or feeling of sickness occurs.
  9. Warning! When dispatching excessive amounts there is a strong possibility of blockage. Flush several times and hope for the best.
  10. If flooding occurs - keep calm. Life vest is under your seat. Tread water until help arrives.
  11. Avoid crowds - max: 16 persons in this room.

I signed up for PPP!

Yeay! I'm so happy that I was finally accepted by payperpost! Like this is a dream come true! Did you know that payperpost may be one, if not the best, online program that offers it's subscribers (they call us "Postie" cute right?) the one of a kind opportunity to post about the things we like and at the same time earn money!

A friend of mine referred this program to me and boy was I thankful! Imagine, they literally pay you $20.00 just to announce to the world that you're proud and happy that you got in their program! Isn't it great? The payperpost site is also very user-friendly even to newbies like me. Boy I am really ready to write some great posts from now on!

So to my friends out there, what are you waiting for? Why not join payperpost and join me as I earn while I continue with my addiction: blogging!

The Children of Chinese Businessmen

I'm not sure if this is true or if it is just one of my wild ideas. But I think some Chinese businessmen (and women, I don't want to be sexist) have their children work for their business once in a while. This is just an observation that I have gathered, because every time that I go to a restaurant (doesn't really need to be a Chinese restaurant) I see these Chinese looking waiters who stand out from the store team because they look Chinese and they don't seem to fit in.

Let's just say that I have a gut feeling that these waiters/waitresses are actually rich and are sons/daughters of the rich Chinese businessmen. I think that the reason behind having your children work like common people (if you were a rich Chinese businessman) is to let your children know that making money is not easy. The experience of being common people, the average low-wage salary type of people, would make their children more hardworking and grow up responsible and independent.

I know a Chinese family, friends of my family, who grew up living simple. Their children are not snobbish little rich brats that you would expect of rich families but rather they are rather down to earth totally disregarding the fact that they are surrounded by such extravagance and wealth.

Maybe this is one of the reasons why Chinese businessmen are successful, what do you think?

200 Pounds Beauty

This is a music video from the Korean Movie "200 Pounds Beauty". The song is entitled Maria and is sung by the main actress of the movie herself Kim Ah Joong. Anyway the song is a Korean rendition of Blondie's "Maria" for your information. Here is the lyrics:

"Maria"
(English translation)

She moves like she don't care.
Smooth as silk, cool as air.
Ooh, it makes you wanna cry.

She doesn't know your name and your heart beats like a subway train.
Ooh, it makes you wanna die.

Refrain:
Ooh, don't you wanna take her?
Wanna make her all your own?

Chorus:
Maria.
Youve gotta see her!
Go insane and out of your mind.
Medina.
Ave maria.
A million and one candlelights.

Ive seen this thing before.
In my best friend and the boy next door.
Fool for love and fool of fire.

Wont come in from the rain.
Sees oceans running down the drain.
Blue as ice and desire.

(Refrain & Chorus)

Ooh, dont you wanna break her?
Ooh, dont you wanna take her home?

She walks like she dont care.
You wanna take her everywhere.
Ooh, it makes you wanna cry.

Shes like a millionaire.
Walking on imported air.
Ooh, it makes you wanna die.

(Chorus 4x)

So and if you're wondering what the movie is about you can watch it from Crunchyroll and here's an interesting synopsis from Lunapark6:

"Han-Na is a very big girl with a warm heart. She is also gifted with an unbelievable voice from God. Han-Na has always wanted to be a pop-singer, but due to her appearance, could only work as a faceless singer. She provides the vocals for a popular singer named Ami, a beautiful young lady that can’t carry a note to save her life.

Also, Han-Na is in love with Ami’s music producer, Sang-June, but it is a one-sided love. One day, Han-Na is invited to Sang-June’s birthday party and receives a red dress from him to wear to his party. Han-Na is excited, yet scared. The dress is revealing and quite extravagant. With her very large figure, she is not sure if she could wear such an outfit. She does eventually go to the birthday party in the red dress, but is mortified when petite Ami appears in the same red dress. During the course of the birthday party, Han-Na absorbs more emotional trauma and she simply disappears……..

One year later, after Han-Na’s extreme makeover (major plastic surgery), Han-Na takes on a new identity and becomes Jenny. Jenny has a near perfect body and face. Nobody recognizes her, even her best friend. Meanwhile, the producer Sang-Jung is searching for a replacement singer for Ami, but can’t find anyone close to the talents of Han-na. Han-na as Jenny, now comes back into the picture and auditions for the job. Sang-Jung is immediately floored by her. She has the absolute beauty and that stunning voice. Soon afterwards, her dream that Sung-June will fall in love with her, is about to come true. Unfortunately, Ami is now jealous of her and feels threatened by her sudden success. She researches into Jenny’s background and comes up with the truth about her true identity. Will this ruin Jenny’s career?"

So you might ask me what the relevance of this post is to my blog... my answer? It's very relevant! It does not only concern physical health but it also includes mental health and even all around wellness. Think about it, we are surrounded by media that brainwashes us into thinking that skinny girls and buffed boys are the only thing beautiful.

Because of this g that the media is trying to portray, we have a society that looks down on obese people and think of them as ugly. In return these poor obese people become so affected that they are socially impaired and worst are driven to a life of self-pity and self-hate up to the point that they think of suicide.

We also have skinny people who believe that they are fat and ugly thus we have our beloved bulimics and anorexics. By the way the difference between anorexia and bulimia is that in anorexia, it affects mainly teenage girls (and even boys!) and is described by starving themselves to death so they are underweight. Bulimia on the other hand affects women to their early to mid-20's and they retain a normal body weight because they eat a lot but purge or throw-up the things they ate. Both bulimics and anorexics are laxative (a drug that makes defecation easier) addicts by the way.

But if you ask me, isn't it true that we find people who are skinnier more attractive? I am guilty of being a skinny person lover than a chubby person (but that depends if the person is cute hehehe ^_^). I even plan on dieting this summer because I see myself as fat, but I don't crash diet because I know that more harm can be gained from it rather than good. Crash dieting as defined by diethack.com is drastically cutting back on the amount of calories and fat that you take in on a daily basis. Similar to a starvation diet, a crash diet is often paired with other weight loss "fixes," including extreme exercise routines and the use of diuretics or diet pills.

So what are the effects of crash dieting? Well for one you become malnourished and there tends to be a"yo-yo effect" where a person not only regains his normal weight but also additional weight when he goes to his normal diet. diethack.com also emphasizes the following effects of crash dieting:

  • iron, vitamin B12, potassium and sodium deficiency
  • liver and kidney failure
  • heart attack
  • stroke
  • osteoporosis
  • anorexia
  • bulimia
But again the main reason why cause why people crash diet is because other people makes fun of obese people and bring their self-worth down. It would be nice if they don't treat obese people as monsters. People should really be educated that nothing would be gained from name-calling. Although the obese should lose weight but they should not lose their dignity in the process.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Today I went to the city to get all my papers done. I gave the secretary of the Dean of the College of Nursing at Xavier University (XU) a letter requesting for a recommendation letter stating that I was indeed a student in the College of Nursing and that I am eligible to enroll in a nursing program in another school.

Yup, you heard me right. I'm transferring to another school. But I'm not transferring to another school because I failed or anything and definitely not because I kicked out or I dislike XU. I'm transferring schools because my family and I are moving away to Canada this May. It's quite sad really that I won't be able to graduate as an Atenean nurse. But I'll always be an Atenean in my heart and in my actions... as I told my clinical instructor, at least I won't have to worry about being the cause of a non-100% passing rate on the PRC Nursing board exams.

My God, this is one big hell of a step for me and my family. I'm very scared but at the same time excited because I sure do want to travel and experience something new once in a while. It's not like moving to a new place is a daily happening right?

I will sure miss my friends, my clinical instructors, and of course my beloved school. I'm also quite concerned that I might have to go back to 1st year college because my subjects might not be credited, but this fear is allayed by the fact that an Ateneo school is widely known and recognized in the Philippines as well as in the international field. Oh well, if i do go back to 1st year that would be fine with me since I really want to study again because I'm afraid that I'm forgetting some of the concepts that I have learned.

I just hope that everything turns out for the best.

Anti-Filariasis Medication

At last after a few days of waiting we finally got our share of the Anti-Filariasis medication. If you ask me, although the Department of Health has good intentions of eliminating Filariasis in the Philippines, their Anti-Filariasis Program is poorly implemented (well maybe in our Local Government Unit anyway). In our case, the people in our neighborhood were informed but the stocks of the drug was very limited and scarce. If we didn't go directly to the source, the main "barangay" (neighborhood) health center, then we wouldn't have received our anti-filariasis drugs. The information flashed on the TV was quite misleading and the people at the Barangay Hall were also misinformed.

With this kind of program implementation I doubt if the program would reach it's goals. One reason why people in the barangay don't go to the health center even if the services are free is because they consider going to the health center as a hassle and the line seems to go on forever. So if the information dissemination about the Filariasis program is vague then the outcome would more likely be a failure. The information dissemination was way better in Cagayan de Oro than here in the province.

But I salute our President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, for using her powers for the good of all issuing
EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 369: ESTABLISHING THE NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR ELIMINATING LYMPHATIC FILARIASIS AND DECLARING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER OF EVERY YEAR AS MASS TREATMENT FOR FILARIASIS IN ESTABLISHED ENDEMIC AREAS.

Lymphatic filariasis as defined by Executive Order No. 369
is a parasitic disease primarily affecting children, women and men living in endemic remote areas; Lymphatic Filariasis is a debilitating and disfiguring disease, comprising about 76% of cases living in 4th to 6th class municipalities in 36 established endemic areas out of the 48 probably endemic provinces in the country; advances in the field of diagnosis and treatment make the disease one of the six eradicable diseases as declared by the International Task Force for Disease Eradication, as documented by endemic countries able to eradicate the disease such as Japan, Korea, etc;

So I encourage all Filipinos to avail of the said drugs to prevent Filariasis and to go to your nearest health centers while supplies still last. Don't wait until you become like this:

Online Casino

Ok, I have been talking about online casinos with my friends lately and I said to myself why not try my luck and play online?

There are a lot of virtual casinos online and I mean a lot! It's very hard to choose a casino that pretty much matches my likes. And I also want a casino that offers a variety of games. And while searching for that said online casino, guess what I found? Joyland Online Casino! Like you wouldn't believe what Joyland Online Casino! You are given a lot of bonuses like a $850 sign-up bonus for starters. What a treat indeed! And that's just one of the benefits you'll get for signing up with Joyland Online Casino.

My Brain is on Vacation

As of this very moment I am officially an Out-of-School-Youth. Yup damn right I am. It's time to have my summer vacation started and have the rest period that I have been waiting for for the past few weeks now.

Finally, a little more "me" time and more time for sleeping and all that none sense. "None sense" you ask? Well, although I've been praying to be out of school and just bum around it's not that rewarding.

I'm at home all day with out anything worth doing. The past few weeks I've been fiddling around with my computers at home doing system checks, downloading/updating softwares, and downloading pc games which I don't have the interest to play with (well not yet of course).

I have prepared well for this summer vacation from buying anime DVD's and PC games so that I won't get bored. But surprisingly, I find playing PC games and watching movies a complete waste of time. Oh my God! What am I saying? I love PC games and watching anime. But for the past couple of days now I have been more interested in blogging about health related stuff so that my brain won't become stagnant.

Yup, I want to learn. I'm not a big nerd or geek but I don't want to forget everything I've learned in school so I want to keep my brain in tip-top shape by blogging. Who would have guessed that my addiction to blogging could be worth while huh?

On Piracy

"Ahoy there! You land-lovers er wondering why I'm a pirate I reckon?!"

Well I'm a pirate for a very simple reason: I use pirated software. I know, I know... "Very bad Edgar you are so evil! You are causing the impedance of growth and innovations because you're stealing and all..."

I know that piracy is bad but what can I do? I'm addicted to it. It's like seeing a treasure chest right in front of me, and by instinct I grab the treasure chest and keep it to myself.

But you just have to be amazed by the way people are resourceful enough to generate keygens (that's key generators in short) or create programs to get through password/serial number impregnated softwares.

I'm actually downloading a torrent right now that contains Final Fantasy VII for the PC and at the same time downloading a rapidshare file: Silent Hill 4: The Room. These are all RPG's (Role Playing Games) mind you, my type of computer games where I play the role of a character and be engulfed in the story and such. My reason for piracy is one it's cheap and I'm able to get downloads that are very rare and hard to find like Final Fantasy VII. There are a lot of pirated Cd's being sold in broad daylight in the Philippines in shops that are legal mind you but I prefer to download because again it's cheaper (I'm so cheap I'm sorry).

But with piracy comes great consequences. Although it's amazing that you can download stuff for free you are posing yourself to great danger like having your PC infested by viruses, adwares, and the worst destroys your PC. I've heard a rumor that once Microsoft finds out that your PC is counterfeit they can easily fry or overload your system to the point that it can be salvageable. Pretty scary huh? Not to mention the potential lawsuits that you will get if they gather enough evidence to prove that you tamper with their software or such.

Ok fine, I'll stop my downloads. This stress is not worth it. Plus it takes so long for my download to finish because the free version of Rapidshare restricts the download speed... but there is a way to pirate a premium Rapidshare account. But again bad idea...

Hmm... being good sucks... hehehe...

Let Me Love You Tonight - Ryan Cayabyab Singers

I just love this song! I just couldn't help it! I just want to share it to everyone! The melody is very addicting and even if I'm not in love I feel the romance and all that lovey dovey stuff. Ryan Cayabyab a celebrated musician in the Philippines has produced many great talents but never before has he formed a group that carried his own name. But judging the song he has indeed created a dream team: the Ryan Cayabyab Singers

Here's the lyrics:

LET ME LOVE YOU TONIGHT
by the Ryan Cayabyab Singers

Never thought I’d ever get the chance
To be so close to you like in a dance
I only watch you from afar
Moving like a distant star
So far away, away from me!

* If I could reach you…
If I could touch you…
Would you please let your light
Illuminate this dark lonely life

And let me hold you in my arms tonight
Feel your body close to mine tonight
Let me kiss you let me hug you tight
Until we see the morning light
And let me hold you in my arms tonight
Fell your body close to mine tonight
And let me hold you in my arms tonight
And let me love you tonight (repeat *)

I never thought I’d ever get the chance
To be so close to you like in a dance

And let me hold you in my arms tonight
Feel your body close to mine tonight
Let me kiss you let me hug you tight
Until we see the morning light
And let me hold you in my arms tonight
Fell your body close to mine tonight
And let me hold you in my arms tonight
And let me love you tonight!

Online Casino & Gambling

Gambling is an inevitable experience; it is part of our human nature. We always have to take risks to earn or acquire something more just like in love, work, and daily living. Some people gamble not just for the hope of earning money but rather it’s more of the thrill of the game. The adrenaline rush is amazing as you sit in your chair anticipating for a win. And of course, winning is great no doubt about it.

So talking about gambling, we see almost 3000 online casinos appearing in pop-ups or ads. Of course by instinct we would naturally click them and play right? But more experienced players would then think of the reliability and genuineness of a certain casino online. We also have to think of the web design, ease of use, and most important of all is the game structure and pay-out.

But with around 3000 online casinos how do we find something that really suit our preferences? There is one simple solution! With Pro360, an online casino review site, you don’t have to worry about anything and start your gambling experience!

The site is very user friendly and has a great design. The games you would want to play are placed neatly and they have a list of the Top 20 Casinos and listings of other casinos online. You don't have to worry about credentials because Pro360 includes the online certificates and their review and most importantly the reviews of other players.

Why don’t you check Pro360 out and start playing!

I Passed My Exams!

I'm quite happy that I got through my exams and passed both my nursing lecture and related learning experience final exams. I'm quite confident that I will also pass in the final grade (well I'm still hoping at least). My quizzes aren't that good but my term exams are quite ok.

On the other hand, my block mates and I were able to pass our grand case study/presentation of a 47 year old male with acute coronary syndrome and pulmonary embolism likely with hypercoagulable state secondary to polycythemia vera. Our grand case presentation may have a lot of corrections and errors but it was quite amazing that we even passed.

In nursing research my group's thesis proposal of "Factors that Influence the Adherence of Delivery Room Nurses to Sterile Technique in Cagayan de Oro" has been accepted even if there were also errors and corrections starting from the cover page to the last page.

But you know what's ironic? I may have passed my major nursing subjects but I have doubts if I passed English. Oh my gosh! Imagine what were discussing in English! Art and it's history! The exam is harder than our medical-surgical nursing exam, imagine that! Oh I just hate history. Like what use do we have for knowledge about art and sculptures in the medical field? Is it needed so that we could have something to talk about with our patients who are inclined to art?

Anyhow I really thank God for aiding me in passing my exams! Like I didn't study for our exams and I still passed! I am really so happy!

At last! No more Medical-Surgical Nursing! Yehey! Welcome Summer 2008!

Irresponsible!

Ok my photo above has completely no relevance to what I am about to talk about in this post. I just wanted to place this photo to emphasize the word irresponsibility!

So what about irresponsibility? According to Answers.com irresponsibility can be defined as the following:

  1. Lack of, or freedom from, responsibility or accountability.
  2. A trait causing one to act without a proper sense of responsibility; acting without giving proper weight to one's responsibilities.
My stupid brother may be the best example of this term... he may as well be a new definition of IRRESPONSIBILITY! Imagine this, you come home from school and you find your mother early from work working hard on the computer. At first you might think that it's work related but then you suddenly realized that it's actually your stupid brother's school work/project when your mother asks you to help out.

I was actually quite taken back by this scenario because never have I asked my parents to DO MY HOMEWORK/PROJECT! I may have asked for help but I rarely do this. And guess what makes the whole scenario more aggravating? The projects are due the next day. Oh yes projects! With an S! My mother was doing several projects of my stupid brother.

These projects were given months ago and yet my very stupid and irresponsible brother decided to do it at the last minute. To think that these projects are his requirements to graduate high school.

I sometimes ask myself why my brother is such a bum. A complete good for nothing student who can't seem to get his act together! He was almost suspended for possession of marijuana, got mixed up with juvenile delinquents, got into fist fights (and almost into a lawsuit), and he's a below average student.

Why? What happened to him and he seem so aloof, carefree, and lax?! Doesn't he ever think of is future? What makes him act this way? I can really say that he has no reason at all to be such a bad student! He lives near his school, he's always given allowance everyday (so he has no problems regarding budgeting and all), he has a computer, and my parents are always there to help him out.

So why then am I better at him in school performance?! Imagine I lived independently away from my parents since high school, had to cook my own food, budget my allowance, handle daily stresses on my own, and I didn't have complete resources like a computer. He has everything given to him but why is he so damn irresponsible?

I have one hypothesis why he's like this. He's a SPOILED BRAT! He's so used to being given everything he wanted and he takes no responsibility for his actions. For example, he flunks a subject. Is that a problem for him? Of course not because my parents come to the school and influences the teacher to pass him. He gets into trouble? No problem, my parents are once again to the rescue. He does something wrong? No problem because my parents lets it go. He never gets grounded or punished... so look how this spoiled person turned out. A selfish self-glorifying fool!

I'm quite pissed of because I once remembered asking my mom a definition of a word way back when I was little and she then told me to find it in the dictionary. Fine it's to train me to be responsible right? But what's ironic is right now she's doing my brother's dirty work. So what is she trying to teach my brother now? Dependence?

I know that someday, my parents will realize their mistakes when it's already too late, when my brother becomes a jobless bum with several kids.

Google AdSense PIN

I just love it when I receive letters (except when the letter is a billing statement) and the best letter that I received this year is from Google AdSense. They just sent me my Personal Identification Number (PIN) to certify that I'm a real person and not some person who stole private information just to get more earning from AdSense or something.

Upon receiving the letter, all my doubts about the genuineness of the Google AdSense program has been wiped out. I really can earn money from Google after all. Anyway, for those who don't know what Google AdSense is take some time to read this:
"Google AdSense is a program in which enterprises can display Google advertisements on Web sites and earn revenue from hits that generate traffic for the Google search engines. Google AdSense represents businesses of all sizes worldwide in multiple languages. AdSense is a refinement and expansion of the concept behind banner-ad sharing arrangements that have been in use for years."
- From Whatis?com
Why don't you guys try blogging right now and apply to AdSense. Isn't blogging about things you like and earning at the same time great?

RAM Upgrade

Finally, after a few weeks of waiting I finally had the chance to upgrade my laptop's DDR2 memory from a measly 512 MB to a respectable 1.5 GB DDR2.

At last my laptop is running a bit faster even if it only has a 1.73 Ghz Intel Celeron processor. I was quite frustrated because I found out that my laptop was just phased out and there was a new model with an Intel Dual Core Processor for exactly the same price! And I was like what the hell! Damn it!

MORAL LESSON: Patience is a virtue... and it will lead you to better opportunities!

But anyway, I still love my laptop even if it is this simple...

1 More Week To Go

I am so glad that next week would be the last week for this school semester. I am already so fed up with the Grand Case Presentation and theses paper for nursing research!

I am also glad that I won't have to see some group mates who don't know anything better to do than complain, complain, and oh yeah complain! I am sick and tired of being a leader who has to pick up other people's work and have to get my self stressed over it!

Just a few more days and I am home free to have a fresh whole start!

December 2007 PRC Nursing Board Exam Results

I didn't know how to react when I've heard that Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan College of Nursing didn't have it's normal turn out of 100%. Ever since the opening of the College of Nursing, it had always garnered a 100% passing rate (well except for one time when it had a 99% passing rate). But never the less, Xavier University has once again proven that it's graduates are not to be looked down at. Nurses who graduate from Xavier University are certified to have the 3 C's: Competence, Commitment, and Compassion...

I am proud to announce that my school is the 2nd Best Nursing School in the Philippines as of the December 2007 PRC Nursing Board Exams. XU had a passing rate of 98% (still close to 100%) with 229 passers out of 233 examinees. I pity the 4 who failed because they not only carry the burden of failing but also the shame and the pressure of being the cause of XU's decreased passing mark... but we cannot blame them because the board exam is not easy. Imagine out of the 67,728 board takers, only 28,924 (or 43.42 percent) passed!

I am also proud that there are topnotchers from my school namely:

Top 6: Katrina Victoria Luceno Akut, Xavier University, 86.00 percent.
Top 8: Hernessa Torralba Hernandez, Xavier University, 85.60 percent.

There are also topnotchers from a sister school, Ateneo de Davao University! But I won't be amazed because it is Ateneo of course.

For more info and proof that I'm not making this whole up please visit this link: Inquirer

Beer and Fireworks = Bad Combination

Beer and Fireworks = Bad Combination

This is just one of the many reasons why I don't drink and why I highly discourage anyone else from drinking. Beer makes someone lose their selves for a while. Beer is a very good CNS depressant so your thinking and good judgement are impaired. This is the reason why there are so many drunk people out there who does stupid things like murder, rape, theft, and just plainly making a fool of themselves by lying unconscious on street corners. Not to mention that most vehicular related accidents are caused by drunk drivers.

There are so many health risks that I could give you that is related to drinking.
  • Increased risk of accidents
  • strokes caused by bleeding
  • medication interactions - including non-prescription drugs
  • breast cancer - alcohol increases estrogen levels, which is a risk for premenopausal women
  • birth defects - fetal alcohol effect (FAE) and low birth weight
  • liver cirrhosis
  • heavier drinking - many people, such as recovering alcoholics, can't maintain moderation
source: http://www.med.unc.edu/alcohol/education/benefits.html

Not to mention that drinking could actually lead to an alcohol induced neurosis or dementia. I'll blog about this in a separare blog.

So for alcoholics out there limit drinking. For those thinking of starting drinking, don't start.

My First Coverpage at Seventeen

This is my very first coverpage! I was quite shy at first and hesitant to pose during the pictorials but as soon as I got the hang of it everything went as if I've been modeling for many years now...

Hahaha... if only the things I said were true. But you might have noticed by now that this magazine cover is a fake one. But it does have some appeal right?

I have always wondered how people made magazine covers with their pictures as it's coverpage. My wondering has finally been solved when I discovered
magmypic.com.

Just go to http://www.magmypic.com and then you can upload your photo and choose from several magazine covers. You can then easily post them to your blogger, myspace, or any other accounts with a click of a button.

What are you waiting for? Take your pictures now for your very own glamorous cover page!

My Definition of Doom

Doom as defined by Answers.com is the following:

1. Inevitable destruction or ruin.
2. Fate, especially a tragic or ruinous one.
3. A decision or judgment, especially an official condemnation to a severe penalty.
4. Judgment Day.
5. A statute or ordinance, especially one in force in Anglo-Saxon England.

But in my own personal life, doom is my inability to manage my time effectively and mismanaging my priorities. So what happens next? My work and responsibilities piles up and I am unable to prepare for these responsibilities well enough resulting in massive and successive failures.

Time is not on my side here people. I still have a lot of things to do and I am panicking already. It's quite handy though that I have an excuse for being tardy and lazy. And this excuse is the nursing life is hard and difficult. This is even manifested by the great number of casualties in the college of nursing at Xavier Universirty...

But I have no one else to blame but myself... at least I'm not failing in medical-surgical nursing but I could have received a higher grade than C if only I studied. Anyway, it's too late for regrets now and I've gotten over it already. At least my RLE is a B-.

I have a lot of things on my mind that I want to blog right now but I just don't have the time so I'll go back to my studies now and I'll be sure to update my blog as soon as I can. Maybe this coming Saturday or so...

So many thoughts so little time

Aah! i have so many ideas that I would like to blog right now but I really don't have the time to do so. I have so many projects and exams in queue and it's even more amazing that I'm not really in a state of panic like my other classmates are right now. I could really feel their tension and frustrations and I'm like "hey what's up dudes and dudettes?!".

Hahaha, shame on me... ok I have to go back to my studying right now. I'll update my blog soon enough when I can. Maybe this Saturday? hehehe...

The Proper Handwashing Poem by Ms. Ansay

I was searching the net for guidelines on proper hand washing when I stumbled upon a poem by a fellow nursing student, Ms. Danica Ansay, who studies at University of the East Ramon Magsaysay (UERM)., Here is a link to her poem: Proper Hand Washing!^_^

At first I was wondering why it sounds like a poem until I realized it is a poem. After reading the whole thing I was quite amazed how Ms. Ansay was able to incorporate the nursing procedure of handwashing into a delightful piece. The poem is very witty and funny. Why don't you read the poem for your self:

*Assuming that I did demonstrate the Hand Washing to you

Upon opening the door

You first stole me with your machong-machong body

Standing beside the sink located beside the door

Waiting for me, ay shit! Joke lang!

I mean waiting for the next student to demonstrate

the Proper Hand Washing

Suddenly after we sat,

I heard you call my name, Ms. Ansay!

OMG! I can’t believe I hear you call my stolen name

Walking towards the sink while stealing your sight

Preparing the materials upon preparing my heart

While starting the demonstration

I started to explain the meaning of Asepsis

As a freedom of my friendship with you

The purpose of Hand Washing is to prevent

the shyness I feel inside of me

And thus, I will now perform the Proper Hand Washing

First I will get a tissue to dry your tears and make you smile

Then I will open the faucet just enough to my satisfaction

Throwing the tissue away to the waste receptacle

Wetting my arms from elbow to fingers

Placing my hands lower than my elbow

I will get again another tissue to wipe my drool

while looking at you

Then throw again the tissue away from me

Rubbing the soap from palm to palm

Like kissing each other from cheeks to cheeks

Next is the interlace, then the dorsal part of my hand

Now the spider with my fingers rubbing my palm in circular motion

together with my eyes looking at your posture cephalocaudal

Then my fingers with five strokes each

while saying, ‘my-chu-va-chu-chu’

Lastly with circular motion rubbing my arms from wrist to elbow

Dreaming and wishing that you’re standing right next to me

holding my arms and together we will go to paradise

Now I start rinsing my arms from elbow to my fingers

Feeling the warmth of your hands embracing my coca-cola body

Picking the last tissue to dry my tears of loneliness

before saying goodbye

Throwing the tissue of my tears away from my sight

Getting the towel to pot dry my arms from hands to elbow

Wishing that you were the one who dries my tears

and makes me feel special

Preparing myself for the evaluation

A little spray of perfume and a touch of powder

I think is enough for him to notice me

Feeling nervous while standing in front of you

Listening to what you say and do

Rejoicing for what you’ve said

Giving thanks for passing me

And specially for your time and cooperation.

Weekly Evaluation

This week of duty may perhaps be the most exciting and memorable as compared to all the other rotations. This may be because of the fact that this week is the last time that we will have to sleep late at night for the following day’s requirements, wake up early in the morning to prevent being late and incurring extensions, and be stressed out from the day’s duty. But it was quite sad that instead of rejoicing we were reprimanded because we were not courteous to the patients and staff nurses, I don’t really know much of this issue because I was late for the post-conference because I wasn’t informed that we were going to have the post-conference already.

This was my first time to handle three patients at a time. Thank God we didn’t have to administer meds for this day, or else it would be quite a mess. I have to prepare the meds, do a drug study with my PCI then CI, and then administer them, and finally document the procedure. I was also quite lucky that I didn’t have to take in the newly admitted patient into my care since we were already about to go home at the time she was admitted. I admit that there are still areas that I need to update myself and be more familiarize with like the IVF for example. I need to learn how to be more accurate in reading in reading my IVF levels and be more mindful of the input and output values of my patients.

For this rotation, I give myself 7 out of 10 with 10 as the highest. Although I wasn’t able to make any serious mistakes or errors in this day I am not satisfied with my performance and I know that I could still improve in the future.

Why Am I Always Late?

$Aah! Is it me or do I really lack time management because once again I am late! Well at least this time I won’t get an extension because I’m only late for an assessment but still it’s so frustrating to be late. It’s also quite a shame because of all people, a nurse should never be late. It has been reiterated over and over again back in RLE 2 that a nurse should never be late because every minute is important for the life of the patient. Plus one should also think of the other nurse on duty that one should from her/his 8 hour straight duty. Darn it!

Well at least I wasn't late for the medical rotation. It was really great that my colleagues and I agreed to carpool to save money. We meet at Dunkin Donuts 30 minutes before our pre-conference so that we could then share a taxi and split the fare. It's also a good motivation too since I don't want anyone waiting for me... and I don't want people to make me wait... hahaha! I sound like Sasori of Naruto!

Anyway, lesson learned and I'll never be late again. Hahaha!

Opportunity Lost

Aah! I am freaking pissed of today! I let a $50 opportunity to pass me by. That’s almost 2000 pesos! Like it was already just a click away and I could have been $50 dollar richer! $50!!! Ok cool down. I’ll just let this experience be a big slap on my face so that I’ll never repeat this humongous mistake ever happen to me.

Why didn’t I stick to my motto: Carpe Diem! Seize the Day! The opportunity was right there! Right there but I felt lazy and didn’t grab it when I still could thinking that I could still get it later… what a BIG mistake! Darn it!

Ok, I won’t prolong my agony, I have to do my requirements to get over this stupid action of mine… Anyway, my studies are my top priority right? Hmm… the things I say to get by my lost.
